• Have open cuts, sores, or wounds in the treatment area
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have an active sunburn
• Are taking certain hormonal medications, including some birth control pills
• Have certain autoimmune disorders or cancers
• Experience frequent or severe cold sore outbreaks
• Have an active bacterial, viral, fungal, or herpetic skin infection
